ECCE’S CODE OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT FOR PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERS

EUROPEAN COUNCIL OF CIVIL ENGINEERS, July 2000

Dear Friend,

ECCE’s Code of Professional Conduct for Professional Civil Engineers

During its recent meeting in Rome, ECCE members voted to adopt a Code of Professional Conduct and also undertook to apply these standards within their national rules of professional conduct. ECCE’s aim in preparing and promoting a Code of Professional Conduct is to achieve acceptance of this code throughout Europe, while recognising that each member state may wish to develop this Code further and will consider its implementation in their own country.

Achieving acceptance of this code marks a step towards achieving one of the key aims of ECCE which is "To promote the highest technical and ethical standards" throughout Europe.

ECCE has no mandate to control professional practice and standards. ECCE does not intend to take responsibility for investigation on disciplinary matters if individual engineers do not conform to this code. It is for each member country to decide how this code will be implemented and to arrange disciplinary procedures and it is for each profession civil engineer to ensure that he or she abides by and promotes the highest ethical standards in their professional lives.

Yours sincerely,

António Adão da Fonseca

President
