| ECCE MEETING IN LJUBLJANA – OCTOBER 19th and 20th 2001 |

The 34th
meeting of ECCE was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s historic capital and the
location of more than one of Slovenia’s most important bridges.
Slovenia,
with a population of 2 million and a surface area of 20,000 km2 is located at
the heart of Europe. It is a
predominantly hilly country which boasts a large number of bridges, a number of
which are of global importance.
The
ECCE meeting was hosted by Inzenirska Zbornica
Slovenije, the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers. They have superceded the Slovenian Association of Civil
Engineers (ZDGITS) as the Slovenian
member organisation of ECCE following a merger of ZDGITS with the IZS.
The
Chamber takes responsibility for the professional development of building,
design and town planning and their general working conditions. Major tasks of the Chamber include adopting rules of good
practice in building design, town planning and other rules relating to
members’ work, it adopts the rules on technical content of competitions that
guarantee a level playing field for members’ participation in competitions.
The Chamber is also publicly authorised to set up and maintain a register
of design enterprises and a register of licensed engineers and to be responsible
for the organisation of certification examinations.
