Dear friends and colleagues

2004 brought many changes in the Europe – the European Union now has 25 member countries, there is a new Parliament to represent all countries and a new Commission presided over by Mr. Barroso of Portugal.

ECCE has been active this autumn, renewing our contacts in Brussels.  On 21st October we presented the concerns of professional civil engineers on the new public procurement directives together with our consulting engineer colleagues in EFCA and our architect colleagues in ACE.  This visit to Brussels by the Secretary General and myself allowed us to visit some officials in the European Commission and some of our colleagues who represent other associations in the construction sector.

It is clear that ECCE can assist the Commission and other bodies on technical matters.  We must all work together to ensure that we give the best advice and help our colleagues  by making officials aware of problems that may arise from legislation and suggest the best solutions – as we do in our daily professional lives.  I wish you and your families a happy Spring time,
